Christmas gifts for gamers under £20: poster ideas for every kind of player

By Matt Smith, Director, Posterly

Short answer: get them a poster of the game they actually play. Every single poster we sell costs under £20 in every size. A5 is £6.29, A4 is £10.79, A3 is £16.19 and Medium (A4) Framed is £16.29, and all of them come with tracked UK delivery: £2.99 under £20, free on orders £20+ (after discounts). For Christmas, order by Wednesday 16 December for the best chance of delivery in time.

Most gamer gift lists are headsets and gift cards. Those only work if you know which console they're on and what they already own. A poster needs one piece of information: their favourite game. Selling gaming posters is our day job, so below are the ones we'd pick for different kinds of player, with real prices and sizes.

What can I get a gamer for under £20?

Here's how our prices sit against a £20 budget:

An A5 at £6.29 also fits in a stocking. The whole gaming range is in our Gaming Prints collection.

What should I buy a Minecraft fan?

Minecraft is our biggest gaming range, so it's the obvious place to start.

If you want something ready to wrap, the Minecraft Painting Poster Set x3 is three of the paintings you can hang inside the game: Flaming Skull, Sunset and Graham, in their original blocky pixel style. It's £11.98 for the A5 set or £19.98 for A4. If they've spent any time building in Minecraft, they'll know these on sight.

If they'd rather choose, or you know which paintings they like, the Build Your Own Minecraft Painting Bundle lets you pick your own at a discount. Three paintings cost £15.09 (20% off) and four cost £18.88 (25% off). Five cost £20.45 (35% off). That's 45p over budget, but it works out cheapest per print.

For older fans, our dark fantasy series redraws Minecraft mobs in the style of 1970s fantasy paintings. The Dark Fantasy Herobrine Minecraft Poster is the one we'd give anyone who grew up on Herobrine rumours. The Dark Fantasy Skeleton Rider Minecraft Poster Set x3 puts all three skeleton rider designs together, at £11.98 for A5 or £19.98 for A4.

Everything Minecraft is in our Minecraft Posters collection. If you're not sure which painting is which, our guide to the in-game paintings goes through them one by one.

What about RPG, MMO and retro players?

If they've put hundreds of hours into one game, give them something from it for the wall.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Poster shows Link against the open landscapes of Hyrule. The Dark Souls Game Cover Poster is the original cover art: a lone warrior in silhouette against ghostly blue figures. For anyone who plays Old School RuneScape, the Gnome Child Poster is an in-joke they'll get straight away.

If their favourite isn't listed here, Gaming Prints also has World of Warcraft, Fallout and game map posters.

Which gaming posters suit horror fans?

For players who enjoy being frightened, the Silent Hill 2 Game Cover Poster is the slow, unsettling choice. The Five Nights at Freddy's 'Celebrate' Poster has the animatronics lined up under retro 'CELEBRATE!' lettering, and it goes down well with younger FNAF fans too.

We also stock two Resident Evil 4 cover posters (the GameCube and PS2 versions), if you want to build a small horror set.

Can I get a personalised gaming poster?

Yes. The Custom Roblox Poster has Roblox avatars on it and is printed with the username of your choice. To add the name, click 'Add a note' on the cart page and type the username in. Check the spelling before you pay, because that note is what we print from.

Which size works best as a present?

All our posters are printed on 250gsm matte paper. This is how we'd choose:

• A5 (14.8 × 21 cm), £6.29, for stocking fillers, shelves or the start of a grid.
• A4 (21 × 29.7 cm), £10.79, the safe choice for a bedroom wall or above a desk.
• A3 (29.7 × 42 cm), £16.19, for one big poster of their favourite game.
• Medium (A4) Framed, £16.29, so nobody has to go frame shopping on Boxing Day. It's a slim black frame, about 24 × 33 cm, with a clear plastic front (not glass). Most of our posters have this option, and it's the only way a frame is included.

Our poster size guide has the full comparison, and how to frame an A4 poster covers putting one in your own frame. If you're kitting out a whole setup, have a look at our gaming room poster ideas.

When do I need to order for Christmas?

Order by Wednesday 16 December for the best chance of Christmas delivery.

Delivery is tracked anywhere in the UK, and free on orders £20+ (after discounts). £2.99 under £20. We dispatch within 1 to 2 working days, and it usually takes another 2 to 4 working days to reach you. Weekends and bank holidays don't count as working days, and the week before Christmas is busy, so go earlier if you can.

Posters go out flat in protective bubble envelopes, so they turn up ready to wrap.
